FK 87 GRASSHOPPER CHAIR BY PREDEN FABRICIUS & JORGEN KASTHOLM

The two Danish designers Preben Juhl Fabricius (1931-1984) and Jørgen Kastholm (1931-2007) met each other at the School of Interior Design where they both studied in the 1950s. But, it wasn’t until they both had gained some experience abroad that they met again in 1960 and agreed upon the design philosophy of; Perfection, Aesthetics and Minimization.

One year later, in 1961 they formed a partnership and founded an architect office. While Fabricius was an educated cabinetmaker, it was with Kastholm’s unique experience as a blacksmith that the obvious and usual choice of material would be steel.  Although the two designers have individually created some interesting pieces, it is in pair that they have achieved their greatest success. During the eight years of partnership they managed to create a wide selection of very high quality designs. The results were often minimalistic and functional designs in steel, glass and leather.

Since 2006, Lange Production has had the exclusive rights to manufacture a variety of Fabricius & Kastholm’s design collection. The furniture is produced at the original factory, and with the original tools as it was in the 1960s. The entire production has been carried out in close collaboration between Lange Production and Jørgen Kastholm, to preserve and respect the authenticity and high quality of these classic designs.

Chaise Longue in canvas with loose cushions and neck support in anilin leather. Frame in chrome-plated steel.

SIDE ARMCHAIR BY NORMAN CHERNER

Born in Brooklyn New York in 1920, Norman Cherner’s designs are part of the iconography of mid-20th Century furniture design. He is recognised as one of the most original of a generation of designers that explored post-war technological innovations in architecture and industrial design. He studied and taught at the Columbia University Fine Arts department and was an instructor at the Museum of Modern Art in New York from 1947-1949. Cherner’s training in the Bauhaus tradition led to a lifelong exploration informed by the belief that all design stems from one discipline. His chairs, tables and case goods have shown an enduring popularity since their introduction nearly fifty years ago. The moulded plywood Cherner Chair, designed for Plycraft in 1958, has become an icon of mid-twentieth century design and can be found in galleries and design collections worldwide, including the Vitra Museum.

Originally introduced in 1958, the iconic molded plywood armchair by Norman Cherner is found in collections worldwide. Reissued in exacting detail from the original drawings and molds, the armchair elegantly combines a unique molded plywood shell of tapering thickness, a solid bent wood arm and a laminated wood base. Armchairs are available with upholstered seat pads in variety of finishes and veneers.

STEELWOOD CHAIR BY RONAN & ERWAN BOUROULLEC

Ronan Bouroullec (born in 1971) and Erwan Bouroullec (born in 1976) have been working together for about ten years now. Their collaboration is a permanent dialogue, nourished by their distinct personalities and a shared notion of diligence, with the intention to achieve greater balance and refinement.
In 1997, they presented their Disintegrated Kitchen at the Salon du Meuble in Paris, where it was spotted by Giulio Cappellini, who gave them their first industrial design commissions. The Bouroullecs have been working with Magis since 2004, designing two complete furniture collections – Striped and Steelwood – as well as additional projects such as Pila chair, Pilo table, Central and Tambour tables, and this year the new Officina collection.
These days, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec design for numerous manufacturers, including Vitra, Kvadrat, Magis, Kartell, Established and Sons, Ligne Roset, Axor, Alessi, Issey Miyake, Cappellini, Mattiazzi, Flos, Mutina, Hay and more recently Glas Italia and Iittala. They also continue to carry out their own experimental activity which is essential to the development of their work at Galerie kreo, Paris, where four exhibitions of their designs were held between 2001 and 2012. They also embark on occasional architectural projects.

Voted Designers of the Year at the Salon du Meuble in 2002, their other awards include the Compasso d’Oro won in 2011 for the Steelwood chair they designed for Magis.
Several exhibitions have been devoted to their work.
In 2012, Phaidon Press published Works, a comprehensive monographic book about Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. Previously, two other monographs had been published about the Bouroullec brothers’ design work: Ronan et Erwan Bouroullec – Catalogue de Raison (Paris: Images Modernes / kreo, 2002) and Ronan et Erwan Bouroullec (Paris: Phaidon Press, 2003).

FLAG HALYARD CHAIR BY HANS WEGNER

With The Flag Halyard Chair, Wegner acknowledges the early modernists such as Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, and Marcel Breuer, and proves that he too masters designs in chromium-plated steel pipes. Despite this gesture, the chair is still decidedly Wegner. The chair’s surfaces are made of plaited flag halyard with the longhaired sheepskin softening the industrial sharpness of the steel, adding comfort.

Although the appearance of the Flag Halyard Chair seems rather futuristic, the basic idea was conceived on a hot summer afternoon in rather trivial circumstances. While the kids were playing in the shallow waters along the beach, Wegner was digging himself into the sand building a comfortable chair to enjoy the holidays. Back in the summerhouse Wegner made the first sketches using the seating angles that he had conceived on the beach.

pp225 comes with pillow straps in the same leather as the neck pillow, and a white or colored sheepskin can be selected.
All sheepskin are produced in Iceland, and are a bi-product of food production. All sheep have lived in the open fields, and hides are processed without the use of chrome.

SUN LOUNGER BY FRANCOIS TURPIN

SUN
