LOW TABLE BY DAMIEN GERNAY

Damien Gernay was born in 1975, in the suburbs of Paris. Between 1994 and 1998, he studied design at Ecole Supérieure des Arts (ESA) Saint-Luc Tournai in Belgium. After school, he worked on scenography projects for contemporary dance and theatre clients in Belgium. From 2003 to 2005, Gernay was an artist-in-residence at Le Fresnoy, National Studio for Contemporary Arts in Tourcoing, France, a center for interdisciplinary artists. In 2007, he established his own design studio in Brussels.

Damien Gernay’s work is highly experimental, driven by his desire to challenge boundaries between art and design. To date, his practice spans furniture, lighting, and accessories.

His pieces often reflect a reverence for nature and the enigmatic; his larger oeuvre focuses on materiality, texture, and ambiguity.

Close to the considerations of a painter or a sculptor, the imponderable plays a decisive role in his practice. The error is accepted and assimilated, making each piece unique with its own history, complexities, and intimate pardoxes. He combine control with spontaneity, mixing the smooth with the rough.

JOSEPHINE TABLE BY ADO CHALE

Ado Chale (Brussels, Belgium, born 1928) Ado Chale’s tables, sculptures, bowls, and other objects express an interest in the expansive possibilities of the natural world. Chale incorporates a wide variety of materials, textures, and forms in his work. He creates rich mosaics made of wood, stone, metal—and even unusual materials such as peppercorns—spread across the surface of tables. He then coats the tables with a clear resin, which provides a flat surface while preserving the visibility of the carefully selected materials. In his beautiful Circular low table, round marcasite crystals are perceptible along the rich, black tabletop. In other pieces, such as the “Gouette d’eau” side tables, Chale uses large slabs of cast bronze or aluminum to create monolithic objects. Interior designer Troy Seidman has praised Chale, remarking, “I think a lot of men respond to Ado Chale’s work because his pieces are like jewelry for a room.”

Placas Coffee Table

Placas is a collection of coffee table designed for indoor and outdoor settings.  The project is a combination of three circle segments, having the same dimension, that complete the circular figure, keeping on sight, in the empty spaces, the support structure and the legs. The sophisticated simplicity of the project, besides highlighting the pattern, allow ample space to the expressivity of the material, worked and folded. The Placas tables are the result of a contemporary project that consider the ease of assembly, dismantle and packaging, intrinsic and inescapable qualities.

TABLE BENCH BY FINN JUHL

Finn Juhl experienced an international breakthrough in the USA during the early 1950s. He subsequently designed a whole range of furniture with simple metal pipe frames, inspired by the American designers he had come across.

The Table Bench was part of this line and was featured as part of the large-scale exhibition called Design in Scandinavia that travelled across North America, curated by Finn Juhl himself. The exhibition opened in 22 cities between 1954 and 1957 and was attended by approximately 650,000 visitors.

As a result of this exposure and because of its light, elegant and timeless design, the Table Bench has always been a popular piece that has achieved extremely high prices at auctions worldwide.

Onecollection has relaunched the Table Bench in three lengths: 112, 170 and 225 cm; and in walnut, teak, oak, Oregon pine or black linoleum with a burnished steel frame and wooden toes.

The Table Bench comes with or without edges in matte polished brass. Furthermore, the bench is available with a foldable, padded cushion in either fabric or leather.

I BY POL QUADENS

PQ.jpg
