ATEM SOFA BY MARCO LAVIT NICORA

Atem is a tribute to transparency. The modular structure, essential and geometric in every detail, leaves no room for superfluous. Each material is associated with a compositional element suggested by its features. The steel mesh, almost impalpable, lays bare the nature of the object, creating a veiled playful transparency.

Kaspar Hamacher’s Bench

Bench

Taking nature as his basis, Kaspar Hamacher (1981), Eupen, (BE) is focused resolutely on physical rather than conceptual design. As he says himself, he feels more craftsman than designer The things he can do with wood appeal to the imagination: whether it is a tree stump or a piece of leather, the key is authenticity in every step of his design process. Hamacher’s working method always results in a unique, personal piece. A piece of design with a deeper meaning; with a soul.

TABLE BENCH BY FINN JUHL

Finn Juhl experienced an international breakthrough in the USA during the early 1950s. He subsequently designed a whole range of furniture with simple metal pipe frames, inspired by the American designers he had come across.

The Table Bench was part of this line and was featured as part of the large-scale exhibition called Design in Scandinavia that travelled across North America, curated by Finn Juhl himself. The exhibition opened in 22 cities between 1954 and 1957 and was attended by approximately 650,000 visitors.

As a result of this exposure and because of its light, elegant and timeless design, the Table Bench has always been a popular piece that has achieved extremely high prices at auctions worldwide.

Onecollection has relaunched the Table Bench in three lengths: 112, 170 and 225 cm; and in walnut, teak, oak, Oregon pine or black linoleum with a burnished steel frame and wooden toes.

The Table Bench comes with or without edges in matte polished brass. Furthermore, the bench is available with a foldable, padded cushion in either fabric or leather.

BLACK BENCH BY KASPAR HAMACHER

BENCH BY KASPAR HAMACHER

Taking nature as his basis, Kaspar Hamacher (1981), Eupen, (BE) is focused resolutely on physical rather than conceptual design. BENCH BY HANS WEGNER

Hans Wegner’s Bench

1935 Venus Bench

Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007) trained as a cabinet-maker before attending the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, where he later lectured from 1946 to 1953. From 1938 to 1942, he worked as a furniture designer in Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller’s architectural practice. In 1943, he set up his own office in Gentofte and collaborated with Børge Mogensen in the design of an apartment shown at the 1946 Cabinetmakers Exhibition in Copenhagen. Throughout his long career, he has designed furniture extensively for Johannes Hansen and Fritz Hansen. The Royal Society of Arts, London, made him an Honorary Royal Designers for Industry in 1959.

The ‘Venus Range’ is an example of Hans Wegner’s early fascination with bent plywood. The range features two ‘shells’ of plywood that are used to create a lean curving back and an effortless cantilevered the seat. Although considered experimental pieces for Hans Wegner, they carry a minimalist poetic touch and a consideration for the human form, two signature aspects of Wegner’s work.
